Take Time to Recover
June 13, 2025
These are very trying times. Nearly all of our assumptions and norms about what life should be like in this world seem to be called into question—if not crumbling before our very eyes. The time-honored ways of keeping democracy functioning no longer seem to work as they once did, casting doubt on much of what we’ve taken for granted in our daily lives.
Speaking out and protesting now feel like the only reliable ways to ensure our voices are heard—and perhaps the only ways to resist the sweeping overreach and abuse of power that threaten to reshape everything we know.
All of this creates deep anxiety and demands courage and stamina—resources already stretched thin. Yet our continued participation feels like the only thing standing between us and the loss of our democracy.
That’s why it’s crucial—especially if we’re in this for the long haul—to take care of ourselves and each other. We need to give ourselves moments of respite, a kind of R&R, a necessary act of self-maintenance to stay healthy and grounded enough to continue the struggle for as long as it takes to restore the great American tradition of democracy.
